In 1991, opposition parties, led by the BNF, formed the Botswana People's Progressive Front (BPPF) to fight the next elections. Economic problems and a string of corruption scandals led to a decline in support for the BDP at elections in 1994. The opposition BPPF increased its seats in the National Assembly from 3 to 13.
